Troels Lund Poulsen, the Danish minister of Business and Growth, has appointed Jesper Berg to be director of the country's financial regulator.
The 56-year MSc is to replace Ulrik Nødgaard. Jesper Berg was a manager at Nykredit Bank, Danmarks Nationalbank and the European Central Bank. Jesper Berg has previously held positions as the head of financial stability, the head of market operations and the head of payment systems at the Danish Central Bank. He also served as head of the capital markets and financial structure division at the European Central Bank from 2000 to 2004 and was earlier an economist at the International Monetary Fund’s exchange and trade relations department. A safer pair of establishment hands could scarcely be imagined.
Jesper Berg is a Master of Business Administration. He is an adjunct professor at the Copenhagen Business School. He has written extensively on financial issues, and was the co-author of ‘Finansernes Fald’, a book about the financial crisis, which was published in 2009. He takes up his position on 1st October.
