The Australian Securities and Investments Commission has appointed Simon Gray, a seasoned market practitioner, as the new chairman of the Markets Disciplinary Panel. He has already begun to serve his two-year term.

The panel is a peer-review forum for disciplinary action that the regulator takes against market participants and market operators when they break its market integrity rules.

Gray is the deputy CEO of Shaw and Partners and was the Deputy Chairman of the panel. He is also a member of the ASIC Market Supervision Advisory Panel and of the Australian Securities Exchange Appeal Tribunal, with more than 15 years' experience with legal and compliance expertise in the industry including senior oversight of corporate finance.

The outgoing chairperson, Ms Lisa Gay, has led the panel for the past six years ever since the panel was established in 2010. Ms Cilla Boreham, a panellist, has been appointed as deputy chairman, also for a two-year term.
