Fraudsters pose as Austria's regulator
Chris Hamblin, Editor, London, 5 August 2016
The Finanzmarktaufsicht Österreich, Austria's all-in-one financial regulator, is falling victim to an increasing number of cases of fraudulent communications and/or requests for payments in its name.
It blames 'unknown persons' for the letters to Austrian companies which bear a forged FMA letterhead. It is the clear intention of the unknown sender that either they or someone they know should profit by fraudulent means.
The FMA is therefore asking anyone who has been sent such falsified documents to report and submit them directly to it at fma@fma.gv.at and to the Federal Ministry of the Interior to the Criminal Intelligence Service Austria – SPOC, Josef-Holaubek-Platz 1, 1090 Vienna (email: spoc@bmi.gv.at).
