Kenneth Blanco is to become the director of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), a bureau in the US Treasury’s Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence.
Blanco's extensive background in law enforcement will stand him in good stead when he takes over sometime in the next month. He will replace the acting director, Jamal El-Hindi. He has worked closely with many in the Office of Terrorism for years and he is thought to be well connected. His prosecutorial experience spans 28 years.
At the moment Blanco is the Acting Assistant Attorney General of the Criminal Division at the DoJ. He was appointed to the position of Deputy Assistant Attorney General, Criminal Division in April 2008. He began his career at the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, where he served in various sections including the Organized Crime Section, Public Corruption Section, and the Major Narcotics Section.
