Current account providers in UK to satisfy new disclosure rules
Chris Hamblin, Editor, London, 13 December 2017
On 15 August next year, current account providers in the UK will be required to publish information about the availability of services, helplines and numbers of operational and security-related incidents. They will also have to publish links to complaints data.
From 15 February 2019, moreover, firms will be required to publish account opening and debit card replacement metrics. To publish these metrics from this date, firms will need to start recording and measuring the time they take to open accounts and to replace a debit card from 1 October 2018 onwards.
The FCA will not require publication of service metrics related to powers of attorney. Instead, UK Finance and the Building Societies Association (BSA) have agreed to co-ordinate the development of a voluntary agreement by which firms will agree to publish comparable information about the current account services that they offer to customers on the subjects of health, financial resilience, life events and financial capability.
To make these changes, the FCA has published policy statement 17-26, which amends its "Banking: Conduct of Business sourcebook" (BCOBS).
