Sweden's SEB Names New Finance Chief

Swedish banking group has named one of its senior figures, Christoffer Malmer, as its new chief financial officer. Malmer is taking over from Masih Yazdi whose decision to leave the CFO position at SEB was announced earlier on 19 September.

Malmer is currently head of SEB Embedded, the embedded finance arm of the group. (Embedded finance is the process of integrating financial services into non-financial platforms, such as apps or websites.)

“He has vast experience of our business, great understanding of the banking sector and in-depth knowledge of the technological development within the industry,” Johan Torgeby, president and CEO of SEB, said.

Before his present role, Malmer was head of SEBx, a unit within SEB that explores new technologies and new business models. Previously, Malmer was the co-head of the corporate and private customers division and head of the wealth management. He was also a member of the group executive committee from 2014 to 2018.

Before joining SEB, Malmer worked in equity research, covering European banks at Goldman Sachs in London between 2000 and 2009. From 2007, he was managing director and head of European financials research.
