Bordier In Singapore Partners With Private Equity Digital Platform

The partnership with Moonfare is an example of how Bordier in Asia is pushing to expand its market reach in the region.

Bordier & Cie Singapore says that it is the first private bank in Asia to partner with private equity fintech Moonfare – a partnership which adds to other moves Bordier is making in the region.

Under the terms of the deal, Bordier & Cie will give clients access to funds via Moonfare’s digital platform. The extended partnership is on the back of a joint announcement made in December 2021.

The latest effort reinforces Bordier’s strategic focus on expanding its ambit of services in private market investing. For example, industry veteran Christian Skaanild was named managing partner in 2020 after a career of over 20 years in private equity.

“The partnership aligns with our overall strategy of ramping up the bank’s alternative investment offering. The rising investor class in Asia continues to have a strong appetite for private market opportunities and we strive to grow our capabilities alongside the ever-sophisticated needs of our clients,” Evrard Bordier, CEO of Bordier & Cie (Singapore), said.

Bordier has also been pushing into markets such as Vietnam, doing so via a joint venture route.

Digital platform
Besides Moonfare’s partnership with Bordier, the platform has drawn interest from other distributors in the region, such as family offices, digital platforms and wealth managers.

Moonfare said that its platform boasts the industry's first digital secondary market – enabling investors to buy and sell others’ stakes and hence boost liquidity in what has been a traditionally illiquid asset class.

The fintech firm raised $125 million Series C funding led by Insight Partners in 2021. More recently, Vitruvian Partners joined Moonfare as shareholder and partner.

“Our partnership with Bordier & Cie serves as a huge vote of confidence in Moonfare's mission to transform the traditional landscape of wealth management,” Kit Toh, head of partnerships Asia, said.
