EXCLUSIVE: North American, European IPO Capital-Raising Values Set To Drop Vs A Year Ago - Wealthmonitor

The data tracking and analytics organisation has provided exclusive figures about the trend of IPO capital-raising, which are important liquidity events; we are working exclusively with a data firm to obtain details about where IPOs are held and how much capital they raise.

The size of liquidity events created by initial public offerings by European and North American firms is expected to fall this year below levels notched up in 2018 and 2017, according to figures made exclusively available to this publication.

The total value of IPOs in the year to date, as of 26 November, stood at €56.018 billion ($61.94 billion), Wealthmonitor, a firm that tracks such corporate events, said.

In terms of the number of share floats, there was a total of 235 year-to-date, down from 371 in 2018 and 412 in 2017, the organisation said. As far as total values, IPOs in 2018 were €66.842 billion, and €73.78 billion in 2017.

In North America, the total value of IPOs actually rose to €36.468 billion, from 121 IPOs, up from €30.975 billion. Weaker European performance did the damage to the overall numbers. There have been 114 IPOs since January this year, from 216 a year before, with values sliding by almost half to €19.55 billion from €35.867 billion.

IPOs, along with merger and acquisitions, exercise of share options, and transfers via inheritance, are significant drivers of new high net worth individuals or additions to the wealth this population group already holds.
