The [tag|finacial conduct authority|]Financial Conduct Authority[/tag] has appointed four directors to lead key areas of its supervision division.

Former Skandia UK chief executive Nick Poyntz-Wright has been appointed as director of long-term savings and pensions, which also includes wealth management services and investment intermediaries.

William Amos, acting director of wholesale banking and investment management, has been given the job permanently. Prior to this, he was head of enforcement at the FCA’s predecessor, the Financial Services Authority.

The department supervises approximately 3,400 firms, including investment banks, fund managers and hedge funds.

Karina McTeague has been hired to lead its supervision of retail banking and joins from Lloyds banking group, where she was chief risk officer.

Linda Woodall, acting director of mortgages and consumer lending, has now been made permanent.

The FCA said the appointments complete the senior structure in supervision, and are the final step in implementing a new structure for the division.

All four directors will report to FCA director of supervision, Clive Adamson.

The restructuring of the supervision division follows the launch in July of a new department for monitoring wealth management and private banking firms to regulate the sector.

The department is run by head of wealth management and private banking Bob Ferguson, who reports to Poyntz-Wright.

Last month, the FCA published an early review of how advisory firms have implemented some of the core aspects of the Retail Distribution Review. It found that the majority of firms have made progress, along with a willingness to adapt to the new rules.

However, the FCA expressed concern about a number of common issues which had led to confusion among clients, including the disclosure of charges and fees, as well as the way firms explained their restricted or independent status.
